I was going to put this information up in August, with more details, but as this seems to have leaked out
onto facebook, and I keep getting asked, here is the news...
BEATNIK
FILMSTARS HAVE LEFT THE BUILDING.
And
this time, they won’t be coming back.
Friends,
I bring you the news that Beatnik Filmstars have for the second time, finished..
The
simple truth to the reason, which will save you writing to ask about, is
basically this:
I was beginning to feel that we were starting to get a bit too predictable. Recently, I feel we simply haven’t
been
putting the time or effort in due to too many other commitments.
This doesn’t mean that I don’t rate the last shows we played, or the last few records (Broken Bones / Purple Fez)
as
being up there with some of the best things we’ve ever done, because
they very obviously are.
Tom is going from strength to strength, with his band The Fauns, Tim is overly busy with The Short Stories.
Maurice, Geoff and I all have plenty to do to keep ourselves occupied. I was beginning to feel as if we were all
pushing the Beatniks to the bottom of the pile of ‘things to do’ and I’ve always taken the band reasonably
seriously, and to think of it just becoming something we do when we’re not doing something more interesting
just
didn’t feel right.
Musically,
this is not where I stop.
There will be a brand new album, and some shows soon. I will not be forming a new band as such, but the
new project (as yet un-named) will be just myself, with various friends (Beatniks & Groovies included) helping
out for both recordings and live shows. But it will remain flexible, so at one show, it could be just me and a
percussionist. The following show could be a full 10 piece band. This will make things more spontaneous,
more
flexible, and hopefully be a lot of fun. It will also dictate which songs are
played and how…
I will give you more information very soon... I feel quite pleased with some of the new songs I am currently
finishing. It’s as you would expect it is a little bit ‘Beatniks meets Kyoko, with the simplicity of The Groove Farm’.
I
very much hope you are going to enjoy it.
I
will also be playing old songs from all previous bands at live shows,
I will be playing a ‘solo’ show in October, with help from friends playing on various songs.
THIS WILL NOT BE THE NEW ‘PROJECT’. This will just be an acoustic show, playing songs from
The Groove Farm, Kyoko, and Beatniks.
Information
coming soon.
I very much hope that you will continue to support me on my musical journey.
We would all like to thank each and every one of you who have supported the Beatniks over the many years.
Andrew.
